IMPRESSIONS

It's under excellent conditions that was held on June 20-21 the '98 Edition of Le Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or on Monthléry Circuit (France). But we'll dont give you all these obliging comments on the EXCEPTIONAL cars, the RESPLENDANT sun or the SENSATIONAL stands installed along the alleys. First of all because we don't have enough place for all to tell you, but also because the Web gives us the possibility to convey differently, i.e. freely. So, let's go !
We liked
the prototypes, which are now proposed to you in photos. Those differed this year by a very strong British presence and a prevalence of the Lotus race cars, which celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their make. Some good surprises also on the side of the vintages, in the hands of really impassioned English owners.
We did not like on the other hand the always so static aspect of the "clubs corner". Some of them even seemed
not to have moved since the '97 Edition ... And always the hateful French practice not to open the hood of the exposed vehicles. What do they thus hide ? An innovation, however, in this "clubs corner" : the barbecue-sardines, even more frightening than the traditional roasted merguez when the sand wind of the circuit is blowing. Among the other criticable aspects of this weekend, the too high entrance fees : 100 FF on Saturday, 130 FF on Sunday (160 FF for the two days) ... With these tariffs, classic cars are not likely to become an universal inheritance ! And to finish, one of our worse impressions : the imposing commercial presence and the all directions sponsors banners, with many products without any common point with classic cars. All is that really essential ?

Pierre & Maria
