No Name Go Server
(VERSION FRANCAISE)
Over the past few months, the No Name Go Server has turned into a
"teaching server," as well as being a wonderful place for friendly and
serious games, and this could not please me more. Our new ratings
system already has a strong foundation based on numerous handicap
games, so our relative ranks are fairly accurate and becoming more so.
We pride ourselves on being friendly, helpful and willing to listen to
your needs.
New items:
12/27/95: NNGS Home page: http://imageek.york.cuny.edu/~cpu/NNGS/index.html
12/25/95: Source code now available. See item #8
12/24/95: Channels are easy to use, and enjoyable! See item #9
First NNGS Tournament! See: help nngst on NNGS!

Some notable items at NNGS:
- Gobot, a Go playing robot, that presents pro games 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. While observing a GoBot game, type "ginfo" and you
will get the game title and game event.
Gobot takes requests. Type "help request" while on NNGS.
- We have implemented a rating system, based on Pettersons system.
Please see "help ratings".
*NEW*: http://imageek.york.cuny.edu/~nngs/rats.html
These are rated users progress graphs.
- Pair Go (RenGo). See "help pair-go".
- Many new commands such as awho, censor, and gshout (Go related
shout).
- We do have a great Ladder System, which is a continuously running
tournament for serious players. By winning just one even game,
the challenger replaces the opponent's place on the ladder.
See http://imageek.york.cuny.edu/ladder.html for ladder stats on WWW.
- The server employs the Super Ko rule.
- New commands:
- problem : Allows you to view life and death problems.
(See "help problem")
- sresign : Allows you to resign a stored game.
- spair : Aids in the setting up of pair matches
- Source code availability. I am a strong believer in the GNU
project. If you have a lot of drive space, and you are interested
in seeing how it all works, and what kind of a mess you can make
of your system, the server source is located at:
imageek.york.cuny.edu:nngs/src
There are a few files there, please get all of it. Make sure you have
a lot of drive space, it is 2 meg uncompressed, and a whole lot more
compiled. The source will also be available on prep.ai.mit.edu, I
assume right after the holidays when they can move it out of the
incoming directory.
- A decent channel system and commands to make using channels much more
user-friendly. (Multiple channels, and saves channels between logins!)
- Many friends who will respond to your ideas and questions.
telnet to: nngs.cosmic.org 9696 (or 130.238.147.128 9696)
(*NEW* Alternate port number: 2929 for those with firewall problems!)
For compuserve users:
GO TELNET
select "access a specific site"
then enter 130.238.147.128:9696
(the line break has to be set. for the login one can use CTRL CR,
to toggle the line break: CTRL ] (american keyboard))
If you have any questions or difficulties, have a suggestion, or just
want to send us your good wishes, please email your message to:
bugs@imageek.york.cuny.edu
Enjoy.
